PROSPECTIVE GRADUATE STUDENTS

Dr. Scarpa will not be reviewing graduate student applications for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Dr. Scarpa is a core faculty member of the Clinical Science program at Virginia Tech. The Clinical Science program is committed to training students as research-oriented psychologists using the mentorship model. For information on the program specifically, visit the Clinical Science web site: https://www.psyc.vt.edu/graduate/clinical

The PANDA Lab has a number of ongoing research projects, the majority of which are focused on factors related to socioemotional development in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. More specifically, the lab has ongoing projects evaluating stress and coping in families and individuals touched by ASD, as well as the efficacy of psychosocial interventions, including pivotal response treatment, parent education, and Dr. Scarpa's Stress and Anger Management Program (STAMP).

The PANDA Lab also conducts dissemination and implementation science research, seeking ways to understand ASD in a rural context, specifically. We have begun to conduct rural outreach in order to improve access to evidence-based services for all people with autism via the new Mobile Autism Clinic (https://www.vtcar.science.vt.edu/mobile-autism-clinic--mac-.html) and via telehealth. A full list of active research projects can be found here.

If you decide to apply, please email Dr. Scarpa directly (ascarpa@vt.edu) your updated CV and personal statement, as well as any questions about her work or the Clinical Science program.
